Tyler Herro said all he needed to by declining the opportunity to speak to the media during the Miami Heat's exit interview availability. His future with the Heat is very much up in the air heading into the offseason, and it's becoming quite clear that Herro knows that.
There could certainly have been more at play that we may not know about, but the optics aren't great. Especially after an underwhelming season for Herro as a whole, declining the opportunity to speak to the media is not a great move.
It doesn't come off as a great look after his performance this season, and it will look even worse considering how much uncertainty revolves around his future this summer.
Tyler Herro's time in Miami could be over
Now that the season is officially over, there's a very realistic chance that Herro's time in Miami has come to an end. With just one year left on his contract, the Heat has to make a decision one way or another about his future.
And honestly, the options aren't great. The Heat will either have to trade him when his value isn't great, they have to sign him to an early extension, or they have to let him head into the final year of his contract as somewhat of a lame-duck free agent.
Unless Miami is able to lump him into a trade for a star player, it's hard to envision how there's going to be an easy answer when it comes to handling Herro's situation this offseason.
But the writing on the wall does seem to suggest that Herro may have already played his final game in a Heat uniform. Especially with how this season ended, it does feel as if things are slowly beginning to trend in that direction.
Tyler Herro's struggles this season
If so, it would be quite unfortunate if Herro's final season in Miami was an underwhelming one.
In a year that was plagued by injuries, Herro never looked consistently like his All-Star self. It felt as if he was constantly trying to catch up, and he never got into an easy comfort zone. It didn't help much that he was trying to learn a new offensive system while also trying to overcome his injury struggles, but history won't be fond of that.
Nevertheless, Herro's decision not to speak to the media wasn't exactly surprising, but it is quite telling. The front office knows it. The fans feel it. And Herro may be starting to realize it now.
Herro's time in Miami could be coming to an end, and all the signs are starting to point in that direction.
