In today’s look at the world of the Miami Heat, we’ll take a look at some J.R. Smith rumors and ask whether Pat Riley would welcome back LeBron James.
As the offseason continues to wind on and we near the draft and free agency, trade rumors involving the Miami Heat have begun to trickle in. In our weekly check-up on the world of the Heat, we’ll take a look at one involving J.R. Smith, and we’ll also ask the question: Would Pat Riley welcome back LeBron James?
Without further ado, let’s take a look back at what we’ve been writing about the Miami Heat here at All U Can Heat.
Heat have trade interest in J.R. Smith: In what is suggested to be a “salary-designed trade”, the Miami Heat have interest in trading for J.R. Smith of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Acquiring Smith and then waiving him before June 30th would free up almost $12 million in salary relief for the Heat due to the non-guaranteed nature of his contract. Speaking of J.R. Smith, perhaps there is another angle for the Heat here.
Could J.R. Smith be a free agency fit for the Heat? In the previous scenario, the Heat would acquire Smith but not actually retain his services for the coming season. If they weren’t able to swing a trade for him but actually wanted to get him cheap in free agency after ANOTHER team waives him, mind you, there might actually be a roster spot for Smith if there was interest in him within the organization.
Would Pat Riley ever try to get LeBron James back in South Beach? Rumors abound that LeBron James might want out of Los Angeles if the Lakers whiff in free agency. While any organization would be eager to trade for LeBron, if they’re being honest about it, there may be some remaining underlying issues for Pat Riley and the Heat if they were to consider such a trade.
