The Miami Heat are coming off one of their biggest wins of the season, although it was to a Lakers team without Anthony Davis and with that win, there also is potential news of help. On Saturday, as the games were getting ready to tip off, news broke that the Houston Rockets and DeMarcus Cousins would be parting ways.
Now, on top of the fact that he seemed to be fitting in and playing well there, they had also recently guaranteed his money for the remainder of the season. Those three things definitely make this situation that much more interesting, but either way, he’s now available.
Of course, many of us immediately signed him up to play for the Miami Heat, but there were some who detracted. Well, I am here to tell you this.
No matter what Houston did, no matter how your favorite little analyst feels about him, no matter what other factors outside of pure criminality pop up, there is no world where DeMarcus Cousins can’t help the Miami Heat right now.
The Miami Heat have received a gift. A big that can rebound and shoot a taste has become available.
We’ve seen Boogie up close and personal this season. He is still a load to deal with.
On top of what your eyes should tell you, he’s averaging 9.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and a nearly 34 percent three point shooting percentage on over four attempts per contest. I don’t know about you, but those are pretty good numbers for a guy you want to come in and be a supplementary guy.
Some people will try and point to the fact that Houston let him go. The question there is “if they didn’t want him, why should we?”
Well, here’s the thing, I would say that was more about “freeing” DeMarcus Cousins than purely not needing him. With what Christian Wood has done recently, you don’t want to hinder his development or keep him off the floor.
By the same token, you can’t justify shoving Boogie to the bench either, because he’s been playing good ball. It comes down to this.
If you are the Miami Heat, you should have went and got him in the offseason. This is your chance to make it right and they should get it done.
