The Miami Heat have proceeded to totally turn their roster around this offseason. Though the major addition at the top, a three-level point guard, is what’ll really help them stand out, they’ve made a series of minor tweaks that’ll go a long way as well.
One of those tweaks is one that surely will help them avoid a major pitfall from early on in last season. Being outrebounded and handled near the cup at times, the Miami Heat not only lacked enough pure size and rebounding talent, but they lacked the essential versatility among their forward corps that had helped them be what they were in the Bubble Season.
The Miami Heat opened last season with a lack of depth and talent in their forwards and big man rotation. This season, they have quite a few.
While Jae Crowder’s departure to the Phoenix Suns was the biggest of the departures, it only highlighted the exodus of Solomon Hill and the fact that Andre Iguodala was one of the remaining forwards on the roster from that deal the landed them all three of the forwards from Memphis. Well, with Friday’s latest signing of stretch center/forward, Omer Yurtseven, the Miami Heat have officially flipped a weakness from last year into a strength.
Bringing back Dewayne Dedmon as well, the Miami Heat now boast as much or more size than many teams in the NBA. While Bam Adebayo has found himself playing a ton of center or as the lone big across the last few seasons for the Miami Heat, he’ll have as much help as he has at any point in his NBA career in this coming season, with Markieff Morris and P.J. Tucker also signed up.
It should be good for him too. Not only should it allow him to be his best self more, as he’ll be fresher, but it should also fully allow him to continue to develop and diversify the totality of his complete game.
Things are truly about to become really interesting for the Miami Heat and it starts with their unique new collection of forwards and bigs. That’s how they’ve managed to turn a weakness from last season, into a strength heading into this one.
