The Miami Heat have yet to strike a deal on the NBA trade market this offseason. But that isn’t because they haven’t been trying.
With the rumors swirling about their interest in guys like Kevin Durant or Donovan Mitchell, though with Mitchell as the secondary option to Durant as the main priority of the Miami Heat, KD being top billing is probably the same story that’s unfolding in other buildings around the NBA.
Again though, the Heat are among those trying.
Now, the addition of a high-impact guy could be all that it takes to put the Heat entirely over the top and especially if they don’t have to send out any of their key players to get it done. But that’s just the thing though, they would probably have to do so for a player of Durant’s ilk and especially considering that’s exactly what the Nets seem to want.
Specifically, they are reportedly interested only in a package that includes Bam Adebayo for Durant. Here is what Adebayo had to say on those reports and potential trades.
The Miami Heat seem to be doing all they can to acquire Kevin Durant, along with a few other teams. The whole thing highlights the harsh realities of the NBA.
"“It is what it is, control what you can control,” Adebayo said. “Obviously it’s an opportunity for something, but in my opinion, control what you can control. I can’t control that. So do what I’ve been doing. I get up early. I work out. Having fun with these kids. And I’m going to go home and go to sleep.”"
While that was one way to approach rumor or noise that you may be subject to a trade in the NBA, there is another outward reaction to take here. The opposite side of the more humble approach taken by Adebayo is one that many players don’t shy away from either.
As chatter began to circulate recently about the Celtics and their quest to bid on Kevin Durant, a trade package that included one of their stars, Jaylen Brown, emerged. He, apparently, didn’t embrace the chatter as easily as Adebayo did.

While the trade talks still seem a long way from being over, this will be a finite reality at the end of them, if Durant is actually moved. Some players from whichever team lands him will be moved.
That’s just the harsh nature of the business. Contracts, team valuations, trade talks, loyalty and anything of the like are all subject to change at any minute—in a lot of situations, at least.
For what what it’s worth, the Miami Heat shouldn’t trade Bam Adebayo and expecting to see it happen might not be a smart bet. However and again, this is just the business they are all in.
So, it’s not impossible either.
