Russell Westbrook the ‘last best play’ and Miami Heat should make it

The Miami Heat may have struck out at the NBA Trade Deadline, not landing a player, however, that doesn’t mean that all hope is lost.

With Russell Westbrook, almost assuredly, to be bought out by the Utah Jazz after being traded there from the Los Angeles Lakers, the reports indicate that the Miami Heat are among the two teams that Westbrook will be deciding over as the week progresses

Looking over at Chicago, that’s where his old coach, Billy Donovan, is. There is that connection to a Chicago Bulls squad that could use an addition at the point guard spot.

I mean, Westbrook did enjoy four All-Star-caliber seasons under Donovan’s watch. However, the Miami Heat are still alive as well, a team that could also stand to add a jolt of something to their roster.

The Miami Heat don’t have a ton of options out there, but Russell Westbrook on a low-cost deal isn’t a bad one anyway. As a ‘last best play’, they should!

When it comes to the Heat though, at this particular juncture, and where they should stand on Russell Westbrook, they should go for it. He is the last best play at this state of the game.

There aren’t many moves out there to begin with right now—but there surely aren’t many out there for guys that can be as explosive as Westbrook has shown to be, at times, throughout his career.

And for all the warts he’s shown in the past few seasons and most recently with the Los Angeles Lakers, Westbrook is still a future Hall Of Famer capable of going out there and impacting the game in a major way. Heck, he’s still a top 10 percentile athlete, for just one positive bullet point.

It’s just up to the coaches, whoever that coach may be after Russ’s decision, to put him in the best spot and with the best guys out on the floor to maximize what it is that he is still able to do at a high level.

And if that decision is the Miami heat, meaning Westbrook finds his way down to South Florida, you absolutely trust that Erik Spoelstra is capable of doing that. So, again, if you are the Miami Heat, at this point, what can you hurt by adding him for the low?

Nothing, at all. That’s why they have to go for it if he chooses them.
