The start of one of the most anticipated Miami Heat training camps has finally arrived. After making the big move for Giannis Antetokounmpo, the hype surrounding the Heat (at least on part of the fan base) is at an all-time high.
And with media day here, that means the start of the new season is upon us. Over the next few days and weeks, we will get a good indication of what to expect in the Heat's Giannis era. However, before we get any of those answers or certainties, it's only right that we begin to explore five of the biggest Giannis-centric questions before the start of training camp.
Will Giannis be limited at all during the start of training camp or in the pre-season?
There are some false narratives that have gotten out of hand since the Heat's acquisition of Giannis. One of them happens to be the idea that he's all of a sudden an injury-riddled player. That's simply not the case. But what can't be argued is the fact that he's coming off a season that was derailed by an injury.
After missing the majority of last year, including the final month of the season, you can't help but wonder if he will be limited at all during the start of training camp or in the pre-season. It's likely something that both he and the coaching staff will need to answer.
Will there be any sort of load management plan for Giannis?
Piggybacking on the previous question, even if Giannis is healthy and ready to go for the start of training camp and pre-season, you can't help but wonder if there will be any sort of load management plan in an attempt to keep him fresh throughout the regular season.
Because of his age and how important he is to the team, I'd imagine there is going to be some sort of plan to keep Giannis healthy and fresh during the regular season. The question is, what will that encompass, and how invasive will it be?
Can Giannis still be a top-5 player in the world?
This may be the biggest question in the Heat world heading into the start of the season. Much of the Heat's success or failure is going to revolve around this question. If Giannis can still be one of the top-5 NBA players in the world, if not better, the Heat will absolutely factor into the championship picture this year.
But if not, it could bring about many more questions and complications for this franchise. This might be the most important question as the Heat prepare for the Giannis era.
What will the fit look like next to Bam Adebayo?
As soon as the excitement about the acquisition of Giannis wore off, one of the biggest questions that many NBA analysts all around the league speculated about was his potential fit with Bam Adebayo. After all, if this experiment is going to work for the Heat, the Giannis and Bam fit has to be exceptional and seamless.
Considering how similar-type players they are, there's no guarantee it will work in Miami. However, if there's any head coach who will have the best shot at making it work, it's Erik Spoelstra. It's safe to say that Giannis is in good hands in Miami. Still, it's one of the bigger Giannis questions that will drive his start in Miami.
Will there be any stark changes in Giannis' game while playing under Erik Spoelstra?
Erik Spoelstra has had his fair share of criticism over the last couple of years, but there's no question he's still one of, if not the, best coaches in the league. There should be a level of influence that he will have on Giannis. The question is, will it be easily noticeable?
Will Giannis play more in the paint? Will he cut his 3-point attempts down? Will he handle the ball more...less? Will he be utilized in pick-and-rolls with Bam? Perhaps as more of the roll man rather than the initiator?
Spoelstra is going to put Giannis in a position to succeed, and he's going to be the best coach he's ever had. How big of a difference will it make?
