Bam Adebayo sent shockwaves across the league with his historic 83-point night last week. However, he's been on a tear since about mid-January. In the process, he's managed to send a strong statement to disgruntled stars across the league, stating that he's a worthy supporting star who can be a No. 2 option on a championship team.
If there are any disgruntled stars looking for a fresh start, Bam is making it clear that the Miami Heat should be near the top of their wishlists to play alongside him.
Bam Adebayo has elevated his game to new heights
Since January 13, Bam is averaging 24 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists on 44 percent shooting from the field and 33 percent from 3-point range. But he's not just posting numbers; he has the Heat playing at an elevated level, too.
During that stretch, Miami is 18-11, and he's helped them get right back in the mix for a top 6 seed in the Eastern Conference. With the way the Heat have played recently, there's reason to believe that they could very well be a star acquisition away from emerging as a real player in the Eastern Conference.
With the right leading star, the Heat would absolutely be considered one of the favorites in the East. Especially with the way Bam has been playing of late. Even if you doubt him as a potential lead star, he'd be an elite supporting player.
Considering how he's looked recently, I wouldn't put it past him to emerge as a worthy No. 2 for a championship-level team.
Bam is evolving as a leader
It's almost as if something has clicked for Bam, sparking an even greater competitive spirit than the one we've seen from him before. In fact, you can probably point to a recent postgame outburst as one of the bigger supporting pieces of that.
After a brutal loss against the Philadelphia 76ers in late February, Bam uncharacteristically made it very clear that he was tired of the status quo. He was tired of the mediocrity in Miami and put words to those frustrations.
That sparked a seven-game winning streak for the Heat before losing to the Magic over the weekend. Since then, the Heat have also looked like a completely different team under the guidance of Bam.
Between his elevated play and more vocal leadership, Bam is quickly making himself an attractive star player to play with. Ahead of an important summer for the Heat, they're certainly hoping this message from Bam is received well across the league.
