Could the Miami Heat swing a big trade with a second team this summer? The Milwaukee Bucks remain the Heat's most popular offseason trade partner thanks to the Giannis Antetokounmpo drama that will continue to lead the headlines until he's dealt.Â
Last week, ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported that the Heat and the Boston Celtics are two teams Antetokounmpo would consider extending with. Now, whether that gives the Heat a boost in their chances of landing the NBA champion remains to be seen, but it doesn't necessarily hurt them.
The Celtics have more than the Heat in terms of an offer, but Pat Riley and the Heat front office will do everything they can to swing the trade in their favor. That's a Heat-Bucks situation, though; another situation could be brewing with another Eastern Conference team, the Detroit Pistons. Although no superstar is involved, former Heat three-point specialist Duncan Robinson is.
The Miami Heat could switch Tyler Herro for the Detroit Pistons' Duncan Robinson
Of all the current Heat players that remain under contract for next season, Tyler Herro is the one least expected to be back in Miami. Herro has been a centerpiece of Heat trade rumors going back three years, but this year looks to be the one where something finally gets done.Â
We may finally have a team that is drawing a lot of interest in Herro after the shooting guard went through a couple of years of dry trade-market vibes, and that would be the Pistons. As for who would come back in the trade, rumor has it that Robinson could be involved. There is also speculation that a Herro-for-Robinson trade would be part of a larger three-team deal involving the Bucks.Â
For the Pistons, Herro would be a great addition, but can the same be said for Duncan and the Heat? There were reasons Miami split with the eight-year veteran in the first place; what would motivate them to bring him back?
If this trade were to become a reality, it would certainly be an interesting move on Miami's part, though it would also be one worth questioning. Perhaps it comes down to scoring; with Herro gone, the Heat would be smart to try to acquire another scorer, and Robinson is one of the few Pistons who fit that description.
Duncan is coming off a fairly solid year in Detroit, putting up some of his best numbers in years, especially from the three-point line. Yes, he would bring the Heat a scoring punch, but it seems strange to dump a player one year only to bring him back a season later. That said, Robinson was always a consistent shooter in Miami, and considering the season he just had, maybe having that three-point threat back in South Beach wouldn't be so bad.Â
