It's only been two preseason games, but the Miami Heat have already shown flashes of greatness. The fact that Giannis Antetokounmpo has admitted that he's not completely comfortable with the Heat yet proves that this Heat team is only scratching the surface of its true potential.
And that should be a scary sight for the rest of the Eastern Conference, because through two preseason games, the Heat look even better than advertised.
“I'm a little bit more comfortable, but I'm not there yet. I've played with the Bucks 900+ games, played with the Heat two…I think it takes a little bit more time for me to be fully comfortable.”
Giannis is still finding his comfort level with the Heat
Through two preseason games, despite the fact that Giannis hasn't found complete comfort level yet, the Heat already look quite dangerous. Their offensive spacing seems to be getting better with every passing minute, and Giannis is already changing the entire look of the Heat's pace-and-space offense.
You take anything that happens in preseason with a grain of salt, but through two preseason games, Miami is averaging the most points per game and has a top-10 offense by offensive rating metrics. In the two halves that their regulars have played, the Heat have scored 70-plus points. The fact that Giannis says he's not all that comfortable yet with the Heat is pretty crazy to think.
Not to mention how equally impressive the Heat have been on the other end of the floor too. Again, I wouldn't put too much stock in preseason stats, but the Heat have a top-5 defensive rating as well through the first two preseason games.
The idea that the Heat are already this good on both ends of the floor, and that you'd imagine chemistry and reps are only going to make them better, means the rest of the Eastern Conference should be on high alert.
Miami is not even clicking on all cylinders yet, and they look every bit the contender that many doubted they could be in the East this season. And as Giannis gets more and more comfortable within the Heat's system and with his new supporting cast, the on-court product is only going to get that much better.
That should be music to the ears of the Heat fans. On the other hand, though, that should be a scary idea for the rest of the Eastern Conference. The Giannis era in Miami is just getting started, and it's already looking better than some thought it could.
