The Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks are clearly waiting for one side to blink first. From all the recent reporting, that could very well be the biggest reason why a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade hasn't come to fruition.
But if Giannis wants to be traded, he can easily get that done by making it clear he wants out. Giannis needs to use his influence to get a deal done.
The leverage game from both sides has been respectable. The Bucks are telling teams through the media that they could hold Giannis into late in the summer, and beyond their "self-imposed draft deadline." The Heat feels they have leverage because of how much Giannis wants to be in Miami.
The Bucks, incidentally, are VERY much aware of how much Giannis wants to play in Miami. They seem determined to leave the Heat in a compromised roster position so that the Heat also has a hard time doing what the Bucks couldn't do the past 5 years (build a championship team…

And with the lack of competitive offers currently on the table, the Heat seemingly hasn't put every last asset on the table. Despite the anxiousness from fans, how could you blame them?
The Heat, Bucks have hit a stalemate on Giannis
Nevertheless, as this stalemate between the two sides heads into the final few days before the 2026 NBA Draft, the stage is officially set for Giannis to get this saga to its conclusion. All he has to do is put his thumb on the scale, one way or another. With one stroke of influence, there's reason to believe that Giannis can get this deal across the finishing line.
But there have been questions about whether he'd ever resort to such a move. It hasn't been his MO. He's clearly had a desire to do this as quietly as possible. However, it's gotten to the point where if Giannis truly wants to be traded, and if Miami is the place he wants to be, he needs to make that clear and relay that message to Milwaukee's ownership.
It's time for Giannis to put his thumb on the scale.
A move that, according to Miami Herald's Barry Jackson, is a "realistic option" based on someone involved in the trade talks.
Actually is realistic option, per someone involved in trade talks.... And I've given updates all week. Bucks asking for all Heat draft picks and all good young players. Heat OK giving many but not all. That's your bleeping update.

Giannis needs to embrace his power if he's going to be traded
With the way things currently stand, it's becoming pretty evident that if Giannis is going to be traded (and anytime soon), he needs to make it clear that's what he wants. To be clear, Giannis "putting his thumb on the scale" is a pretty vague phrasing.
No one really knows what that may end up looking like. But it's just the idea that Giannis needs to use his power to push this one way or another.
Does that mean Giannis reiterates he wants out, if that's not something he's made clear? Does Giannis make it clear, through his agent, that he's only going to sign with the Heat after his contract expires? Does this mean Giannis is doing anything publicly?
It's difficult to tell, but the idea is that if there's anything that Giannis can do to help push this deal across the finish line, it has to be on the table. If this is what Giannis truly wants, it's time for him to embrace his power in the player empowerment era.
From all indications, it could be the trump move that finally gets this move across the finish line.
