With how public the Miami Heat have been operating in the trade market recently, it's become pretty clear that they're not hiding the fact that Tyler Herro has probably played his final game in a Miami Heat uniform.
They're practically shopping him around without hiding it. That has been a big shift in the Heat's offseason operations this year. In the past, they may have shopped him. But on those occasions, they did their best to do so in a stealthy manner. That hasn't necessarily been the case this summer.
And NBA insider Sam Amick pretty much said the quiet part out loud on a recent radio hit on The Dan Patrick Show.
“The reason Miami is loud with it right now. They don’t care if everybody knows they’re chasing Giannis because they don’t really care how Tyler Herro feels about getting traded”
Giannis or not, Tyler Herro's time in Miami is probably over
Whether the front office will admit this or not remains to be seen, but the proof is certainly in the pudding. The front office's actions are speaking much louder than their words (or, in this case, the lack thereof). And, specifically on the Herro front, it's no secret that the Heat will jump at the opportunity to trade him if it comes with an upgrade on the other end.
Giannis is certainly the focus now, but, especially with the way the last year has gone and under the assumption that an extension isn't coming, there's a strong argument to be made that Herro will be traded either way this summer.
Giannis or not, it's hard to envision a scenario where Herro returns next season.
It just feels like both sides are at the point where they need a fresh divorce from each other. Even though it wouldn't be admitted publicly, it's hard to imagine either side not agreeing with it if they were given truth serum.
And that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Tyler Herro may benefit from a fresh start
Herro had a great seven seasons in Miami, and if this is truly the end, he'd be remembered as a great success story for the franchise. Especially if he does end up being a centerpiece for a star trade.
While the Heat are certainly looking to make a big splash for their roster, Herro could also benefit from a change of scenery. He's pretty much hit his ceiling as a Heat, and there's reason to believe he could find greener pastures on a new team next season.
In a new role and with a different supporting case, Herro's career could find a much-needed second wind, one that he may not be able to find in Miami.
His fate is becoming clearer by the day, and it doesn't appear as if the Heat is very interested in hiding that anymore.
The Heat are Herro are probably heading for a divorce, and this may be one of those rare times that it ends up being in the best interest of both sides. That's slowly becoming pretty obvious.
