The Miami Heat can't be afraid to go all-in, putting every last asset on the table, in an offer for Giannis Antetokounmpo now that the pipe dream is slowly emerging as a very possible reality.

Despite some natural concerns about the Giannis fit with Bam Adebayo, or the questions about whether the Heat would have enough to build around the new duo, this is the opportunity the Heat has been patiently waiting for.

To allow this deal to fall through because they want to hold back an asset or two would be a very difficult sell to the fan base.

This is the dream that the Heat has been waiting for

Over the past few years, the Heat's front office has sold a dream of landing a superstar via trade to the fan base. Whether it's through Pat Riley's end-of-the-season press conferences or through the message of the local reporter, it's been the worst-kept secret in the world that the Heat have been seeking to trade for a superstar talent.

And now that one is right in front of them, staring them back in the face, it would be quite foolish to get hesitant all of a sudden.

If a trade for Giannis materializes, as some around the league are starting to believe it will, this is one that is going to hurt. For the lack of a better phrase, this is a deal that is going to gut the Heat roster.

If they're so fortunate to keep one of Kasparas Jakucionis, Pelle Larsson, or Nikola Jovic, the Heat should consider themselves lucky. However, the expectation is that it's going to take everything - every last asset - that Miami has at its disposal to get this done.

As it should.

Trades for superstar players hurt. They should cost something significant. And if this trade does happen, the Heat are going to quickly realize that.

Heat need to get Giannis and work out the rest later

But that shouldn't scare the Heat away from making such a deal. This is what they preach. This is the mantra that they've followed for the better part of the last two decades: Get the star talent(s), and figure out the rest later.

They did it with Shaquille O'Neal in 2004, they did it with LeBron James and Chris Bosh in 2010, and they did it with Jimmy Butler in 2019. This is, theoretically, what they're trying to do with Giannis now.

Get the star, and figure out the rest later.

There are legitimate questions about what the next step is if they acquire Giannis. But, at least for now, the Heat can't let those concerns cloud the main objective. Get Giannis done. Then, they can worry about the rest after that.
