Two years ago, the Philadelphia 76ers stole Caleb Martin right from under the Miami Heat's watch in free agency. The Heat could finally return the favor to the 76ers by stealing Quentin Grimes in free agency this summer.

In a vacuum, Grimes could be an interesting potential free-agent target for a Heat team that could use some two-way help on the wing. Even more so considering the uncertain futures of Tyler Herro, Norman Powell, and Andrew Wiggins.

And if the Heat could get Grimes on a discounted deal (after some expected regression this year), it'd make even more sense for a Miami team that will be seeking some big changes this summer.

Quentin Grimes could be a perfect fit for the Heat

After two inconsistent games in the playoffs and an overall unsteady season, there's reason to believe that the Heat could potentially poach Grimes at a good price point this summer. If they truly believe in his two-way ability, Grimes may be a worthy gamble for the Heat.

Even though he's regressed slightly over the last calendar year for the Sixers, mostly because his role with the team has changed since the addition of VJ Edgecombe, there's still reason to believe that Grimes could be an excellent addition for a team like the Heat.

Considered a defensive-first-minded wing, Grimes still has enough potential on the offensive end to make a gamble worthwhile for a Heat team looking for a change-of-pace type of supporting piece. Especially if the Sixers aren't sold on committing to him long term, the door could be slightly open for Miami to take advantage.

It becomes even more plausible considering Miami has its non-taxpayer mid-level exception at its disposal for the first time in a while to utilize in free agency. There will certainly be other options the Heat could look at, but Grimes could be the perfect two-way guard they need on the wing.

The Heat's free-agency options

If the Heat wanted, the Heat could use their roughly $15.1 million mid-level to use on the likes of CJ McCollum, Anfernee Simons, Harrison Barnes, Coby White, Kelly Oubre Jr., Kevin Huerter, or even Grimes.

Any of those veteran players could make some sense for a team that is looking to bolster its supporting cast in the event they're able to strike a deal for a star player. Either way, adding another strong supporting piece to the puzzle could be worthwhile for Miami.

From that group of players, Grimes is clearly one who could grab the Heat's attention the most. He fits the DNA of the Heat, and it's his defensive prowess that could win out over his peers for Miami.

Considering the Sixers stole a free agent from the Heat a couple of seasons ago, Miami could return the favor by prying Grimes this time around. And, depending on what other moves the Heat ends up making, this could be a pretty smart move for the franchise.
