Fishing for some new optimism on the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade front, Miami Heat fans were met with an update that didn't fit their narrative. In the words of Heat reporter Barry Jackson, the "offer is the offer."
It gives the indication that the Heat are right back in a waiting game many fans were dreading. Jackson explained that the Milwaukee Bucks know what the Heat could offer, and the Heat knows what the Bucks want.
At this point, Milwaukee is giving the Giannis trade market the opportunity to expand before making a final decision. That doesn't leave the Heat in a great spot, no matter how good they believe their on-the-table offer for Giannis might be.
Heat are taking a big risk by going all-in on Giannis
The reality is that the Heat are taking a very big risk this summer by putting all their eggs in the Giannis basket. Because if they falter on this front, the Heat will be left with no clear-cut plan B. The team's only hope is that the Giannis situation is settled at the NBA Draft, giving the front office the ability to pivot toward other pursuits before the offseason fully arrives.
But, especially with the way this entire saga has unraveled, there's no guarantee that will happen.
It's been reported that the Bucks want some sort of Giannis resolution by the draft, but the ball is really in the superstar's court. Because if there's even a small chance that Giannis would be open to signing a long-term extension in Milwaukee, it's hard to envision a trade happening before there's certainty on that front.
That's what Heat fans are dreading.

They want a quick resolution. Especially considering how much the front office has invested in the Giannis decision, fans want to know what the result is going to be one way or another. It would also be a great service to the front office, giving them ample time to pivot if they need to.
But that doesn't seem to be the case. As the offseason inches closer, it's become quite clear that the Heat are not operating on their own timeline. They're at the mercy of the Bucks right now. For better or worse, the Heat continue to find themselves in a waiting period for Giannis.
The hope is that this huge risk will all pay off for the Heat, but this is the part that Heat fans love to hate.
