Heat must finally take risk fans may not be completely on board with

The Heat should explore a polarizing swap.

If given the opportunity, the Miami Heat should look to make a Tyler Herro for Ja Morant swap. It's risky and would come with plenty of pushback (especially from a portion of the fan base), but it's a gamble that could pay off in a significant way down the line for Miami.

And with how the season has begun to fall off the rails, I'm not really sure why the Heat wouldn't be willing to, at the very least, consider such a move.

If there's one thing that has become abundantly clear this year, it's that this Heat team needs an injection of talent - and elite talent at that. Even when they've been relatively healthy this year (with Herro in the lineup), it hasn't made much of a difference.

At best, they're a Play-In Tournament level team and don't have a ceiling higher than a first-round playoff squad. That's not going to cut it for an organization that has prided itself on championship-or-bust.

That's where a risk like taking on the reclamation project of Morant could make sense for Miami. At this point, there's not much else they can do to shake things up.

Why Ja Morant could be worth the gamble for the Heat

First things first, this is not a call for the Heat to do whatever it takes to acquire Morant. I wouldn't advise the Heat to sell the farm for Morant. In fact, I'd only consider such a deal if this were as close to a straight-up Herro for Morant swap as it gets.

That's probably technically not possible because of salary, but maybe a two-for-one swap would work. If it takes a first-round pick to get a deal across, I'd completely understand if the Heat reconsidered.

But if the Heat could get to a point where this is close to a straight-up swap, they 100 percent have to look strongly at pulling the trigger on this deal.

Miami needs to change things up. Their roster has begun to grow stale, and even though Morant is not the player he once was, the mere chance that he can rebuild his reputation back up is worth the roll of the dice if you're the Heat.

Unless they know for certain that they're going to have a real shot at Giannis Antetokounmpo during the offseason, which doesn't seem plausible at this point, Morant might be the best pure talent that they could reasonably add to the roster in the foreseeable future.

And there's the best part of rolling the dice on Morant in a potential Herro swap straight up: they could still have the assets for Giannis down the road.

It may not be the hugely popular move within the fan base, but the Heat's front office has to think about a Herro for Morant swap. It may be the only chance to raise this team's ceiling this season.
