The longer the Milwaukee Bucks go without accepting a theoretical offer from the Miami Heat for Giannis Antetokounmpo, the better the chance is for another team to up their offer and ultimately swipe the superstar forward from their reach.
There's no guarantee that this will happen, but it's certainly a new fear that has been unlocked as we inch closer to decision time for the Bucks and Giannis.
Especially if it's accurate that the Heat has the best offer on the table currently for Giannis, which, according to Bucks reporter Jim Owczarski, may be the case. If this rumor is true or holds any weight, the longer that a deal isn't announced or agreed upon, the greater the fear will rise within the fan base that it won't ever happen.
Bucks could be waiting for a team to trump the Heat's offer for Giannis
Because that may only mean the Bucks are giving the rest of the market the opportunity to bring forward a better offer, one that the Heat may or may not be able to trump with their assets.
Or it could just mean that the Bucks are waiting until we get closer to the NBA Draft to agree to a deal. Either way, we don't know. And maybe that's the way the Bucks want it to be.
But that unknown is what has to be driving Heat fans crazy. The uncertainty of it all. But that's just one part of playing the star-hunting game.
These are the risks that come with it. And the ones that could be remembered as worth it all if the Heat come away with Giannis.
The Heat could be left guessing in silence
At this point, it's anyone's guess how this all plays out. On the surface, it would seem as if the Heat has a decent shot at winning the Giannis sweepstakes. But, again, this waiting game in the silence could throw a huge wrench in it all.
And, to a certain extent, birth completely new fears.
In the end, these next couple of weeks could be the most difficult of this entire Giannis saga for the Heat. Especially if the silence remains deafening.
For the fan base, who knows where this is heading?
We could find out in a few weeks that the Heat and Bucks were working in lockstep the entire way. At the same rate, we can also find out that the Bucks were playing the Heat all along, waiting for a team to outbid them at the very last minute.
The uncertainty between it all is certainly a new fear that is beginning to make its way through the fan base. And, honestly, it probably gets a lot worse before it might get better. The worst part about? There's not even a guarantee that it will.
