The Miami Heat's plan B this offseason, in the event that they don't land Giannis Antetokounmpo, is one that will anger and frustrate fans further. According to recent reporting, if the Heat misses out on Giannis, they're just going to push their hopes of landing a star into 2027.
Despite the recent momentum toward a potential deal over the last 24 hours, the Heat still have no guarantee whether they're going to be able to land Giannis Antetokounmpo or not. And, naturally, that only further highlights the importance of alternative offseason plans.
What if the Milwaukee Bucks continue to play hardball and don't trade Giannis at all? What if a dark-horse team enters the sweepstakes at the last minute to swipe Giannis away from the Heat?
The Heat needs to be prepared for that very possibility. It appears they are, but it's one that has not been popular among the fan base.
That is the plan barring change of heart if no Giannis

The Heat can't afford to miss out on Giannis
What does this all mean for Heat fans? Well, it's pretty simple. It's the idea that they just can't afford to miss out on Giannis. Because if they do, it will only lead to much more uncertainty heading into the future.
In theory, the Heat kicking the can down the road until 2027 isn't all that surprising. There have been whispers of this possibility, so hearing this communicated isn't all that shocking. However, that doesn't mean it will sit well within the fan base.
There's been a strong push that if the Heat does end up missing out on Giannis, that it should be the final straw for the organization, pushing them to build their next championship roster a different way.
Especially with the way the landscape around the league has changed, the opportunity would theoretically be there for the Heat.
But that doesn't seem as if that's going to happen. In other words, just because the Heat loses out on the Giannis pursuit, that doesn't mean they're going to quit the star-hunting business. For better or worse, the Heat isn't changing its identity whether they land Giannis or miss out on him.
All that said, that doesn't mean it's the right path forward for the Heat or for any team looking to build in the modern NBA.
Above all, that's the biggest gripe from the fan base. But maybe it never comes to it. Maybe the Heat lands Giannis, and this is a conversation that is never had. Either way, the fact that it's even a mere possibility is pretty terrifying.
Honestly, it just explains even further why the Heat desperately must land Giannis. Because if this is the plan B, it could be a roughly next 12 months for this once-proud organization.
