If the Miami Heat is looking to beef up its backcourt and is in search of doing so via the low-cost route, Lonnie Walker could suddenly emerge as an intriguing option. Taking it a step further, the argument could be made that Walker could be viewed as the ideal reclamation project for the Heat as they begin to build around Giannis Antetokounmpo.
After playing in the EuroLeague this past season, NBA insider Marc Stein says that he's ready to make a return to the NBA. Still just 27 years old, there's reason to believe that he would be an intriguing fit next to Giannis and Bam Adebayo.
The Heat are rumored to be in the market for shooting now that Giannis is on board. Walker may not be categorized as a "shooting specialist," but he does have a good track record with his jump shot while also maintaining the ability to offer more on the defensive end of the floor.
Could Lonnie Walker IV be a fit in Miami?
Over the course of his seven-year career in the NBA, Walker averaged above 35 percent shooting from 3-point range. During his first four years in San Antonio, Walker was emerging as a real contributor to the team.
However, his career took an uneven turn over his next three seasons as he bounced around Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia.
Ultimately, Walker left the NBA in 2025 to join Maccabi Tel Aviv. After one season overseas, Walker has the opportunity to leave for the NBA. The Heat should, at the very least, take a look at this possibility. It also doesn't hurt that Walker played his college ball in Miami. Perhaps that could be another reason why this is a connection that could make sense for both sides.
Even if there's just a small chance that Walker still has some productive years left, the Heat should take a flier.
With one of the best developmental systems in the league, Walker could have a resurgence playing next to Giannis and Bam. With all the attention on those two stars, Walker could have the ability to lean back into a past role that he found success in during his time with the Spurs.

And maybe Walker has indeed got to that point where he's ready to give his NBA career another shot.
Walker didn't leave the NBA because he wasn't good enough anymore, and perhaps a year away was the very thing he needed to get back on track. Either way, if Walker does make his way back to the NBA, the Heat should be one of the few teams willing to take a flier.
The Heat have found success in similar situations before. And as they look to kick off the Giannis era with some intrigue, Walker could be one of the low-cost, high-reward options that could make sense for Miami.
