The Miami Heat Culture doesn’t really have explicit rules. However, if the provisions were written on a 1000 year old basketball made of stone somewhere, then it would probably include the fact of doing whatever it takes and is neccessary to ensure your team wins the game.
That is the literal definition of what Dewayne Dedmon‘s role will be within the Miami Heat’s rotation in this upcoming season. The best collective phrase to describe him would be a jumbo Swiss Army Knife or utility guy.
Whether it be in terms of a certain lineup, certain needs in a lineup or parts of a game, or the rotations as a whole, Dedmon should be a piece deployed to help bring it all together.
The Miami Heat nabbed Dewayne Dedmon last season at a time where they desperately needed size. Back again this year, he should have a bigger impact.
If the team needs rim protection, a jolt of size or toughness, or rebounding, for a few examples, Dedmon is the guy.
If the Miami Heat want to play up-sized, as a whole but maintain spacing, they could try a lineup that features Dedmon as one of the bigs. Though he is a seven-footer, he’s capable of sinking the long ball and helping to provide spacing, not clogging things up at the very least.
He should also see his fair share of time with multiple units. Even if it isn’t deployed that way, a unit for unit type where he sees time, the point is that he should see time with, both, starters and reserve players.
Again, he’s one of the guys that should help keep it all together for the Miami Heat this year. He’s a form of a glue guy, which makes a ton of sense in the grand scheme of it all.
He’s always going to hustle. He isn’t going to try and do too much.
There is a phrase that comes to mind when thinking about Dedmon. He’s a star in his role.
That means that he always excels at the things he does well, because he knows what he does well and sticks to that, mostly. This will be the role that he, hopefully, stars in this season and if he does, that can only mean good things for the Miami Heat.
