Pat Riley all but confirmed that the Miami Heat will not trade Bam Adebayo this offseason, ending all reckless speculation that had begun to gain traction after their disappointing end in the Play-In Tournament.

This speculation reached a fever pitch within the fan base when Bill Simmons, of all people, outlined a trade idea that would help Bam get on a team with a clearer winning window while also allowing the Heat to jump-start a rebuild.

As intriguing an idea as that may have seemed for many within some in the fan base, Riley shut down that idea pretty emphatically during his end-of-the-season press conference.

“I want to build this around Bam. I think Micky wants the same thing… I’m going to give you a flat out no I wouldn’t do that. Unless somebody gave me 8 picks and Wembanyama”

The Heat aim to build around Bam Adebayo

The sentiment is certainly appreciated by Riley, but building around Bam has been a lot easier said than done since Jimmy Butler's divorce almost two years ago.

And that's the big challenge that the Heat enters the offseason with. Any Heat fan would agree; building around Bam is certainly the preference. If the Heat could find a No. 1 star option to place next to Bam this summer, everyone in the fan base would be on board with that.

The problem is that it may not be that simple.

The Heat will start the offseason with the intention of chasing the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard, and possibly others. The real test is what comes next if the Heat falter on each and every one of those fronts.

Honestly speaking, I'm not sure what the answer is at that point.

Could the Heat's stance on Bam change?

That's where the real intrigue lands for the Heat this summer.

What is the Heat's plan B if they miss out on their pursuit of a star? Is there a plan B in place? Again, the only people who can answer that question are those in the front office. Riley happens to be one of them, and, at least for now, trading Bam is not on the table.

Whether that changes if things go south this summer remains to be seen. But that's not the plan. It's not even a thought...yet.

It should be mentioned, though, that things can change quickly in the Association. It's happened before, and it will naturally happen again. Maybe the Heat will become the next example of that? Maybe they don't.

But if there were any doubts heading into the offseason, those can now be put to bed.

The Heat doesn't have any current intention to trade Bam. And Riley made that abundantly clear during his end-of-the-season press conference.
